Rockport Granite

Rockport is on Cape Anne, sometimes referred to in Massachusetts, as the "other Cape" and is located about 20 miles north of Boston with a rich granite history. Many quarries once operated and supplied building stone to a growing and industrializing Boston and the mansions surrounding it. Rockport granite was known for its big speckle, hard nature and true splits.
Quarries now closed, the only way to get this material is to reclaim it from old bridge abutments, building cellars and other places where granite was once used as building blocks. Stone Farm specializes in this type of reclamation and is now creating a wide assortment of products from these majestic old blocks.

Before there was reinforced concrete and steel I beams there was granite blocks. Fireproof and nearly indestructible granite blocks made a great foundation or wall for any great structure.

What are they used for today?

Landscape Walls
These majestic blocks were originally quarried and cut to build bridges, foundations and even buildings. Now these same blocks make a solid and hansom retaining wall. No concrete product can compare!
Steps and Landings
The massive size and scale combined with the character of weathering and a previous use makes for a dramatic entryway.
Split 6" building veneer
Looking for a "green" building veneer? Our Cape Anne reclaimed granite veneer is created by splitting down old granite building blocks that have been salvaged and saved from new construction projects.
Granite Block Roughbacks and Live Edge Steps
We love the weathered faces and hand chiseled character of granite building blocks from around New England. Why not save those and use them as paving stones and monolithic steps? We create our roughbacks and weathered edge steps by hand selecting only the suitable faces of the blocks, then we use a diamond tipped wire saw to cut them to 1.5-2.0" thickness for paving stones and 7" for steps.
Hand Spilt Posts
The old granite building blocks came in many different sizes. We often find them in sizes from 6-8 feet in length. These old blocks make great candidates to be split into posts. These newly split posts show drill marks and have a weathered and historic look that you just don’t find with new granite posts.
