How We Harvest

New England fieldstone and the walls that have made them literally part of the fabric of where we live. Because of this we employ these practices when harvesting this historic stone.

  • We never remove walls along country roads or ones that act as a property boundary.
  • All material is hand-picked and loaded in a bucket, helping to preserve the weathering on each stone.
  • We work with long since abandoned farm lands and pay a fair price to the land owner who often struggles to keep the land.

How we Sort and Package

We package the stone two ways:

  • We’ll build pallets to a variety of specifications, but generally they are 1.5 ton pallets sorted by shape and size.
  • We also will deliver our fieldstone in bulk via an open metal dumpster.

Our process starts with hand picking the stone at the wall and piling into a bucket. The bucket is transported to the container and the machine drives into the container and dumps the bucket. Once the container is full it is transported to the site and carefully slid out. We have found that by not dumping the stones from a loader down into a dump truck there is much less damage and marring from transportation.
